When You Don't Know What to Do...

Sometimes you don’t know what to do. We like to think that we have life under control. We like to think that we can handle anything. Then, out of the blue, something unexpected happens, and we don’t know what to do. Aren’t those awful moments?
God’s people long ago experienced one of those moments. They were attacked by their enemies from the neighboring countries of Moab and Ammon. It felt like the whole world was against them.
When they didn’t know what to do, they all gathered before the Lord in their capital city of Jerusalem. As everyone listened, good King Jehoshaphat said a prayer on behalf of the people: “We have no power to face this vast army that is attacking us. We do not know what to do, but our eyes are on you” (2 Chronicles 20:12).
What a prayer! They faced an enemy that they could never defeat on their own. So they said what God’s people of every time and place learn to say: “Our eyes are on you.” They looked to God, and he saved them.
When you don’t know what to do, there is always something you can do: Fix your eyes on Jesus. Maybe it’s cancer. Maybe it’s depression. Maybe it’s divorce. Maybe it’s guilt or doubts. Life is filled with enemies you can’t overcome on your own.
Turn to Jesus and say, “I do not know what to do, but my eyes are on you.”
