“Save me!” Do you ever pray that? Does life get so overwhelming that you don’t know what to do? That you don’t even know what to pray? All you can say is, “Save me!”
You’re not alone. The Bible doesn’t hide the depths that believers in God find themselves in. David said, “LORD, do not rebuke me in your anger or discipline me in your wrath. 2 Have mercy on me, Lord, for I am faint; heal me, Lord, for my bones are in agony. 3 My soul is in deep anguish. How long, Lord, how long? 4 Turn, LORD, and deliver me; save me because of your unfailing love” (Psalm 6:1-4). Sound familiar?
There’s more. How bad did it get? “I am worn out from my groaning. All night long I flood my bed with weeping and drench my couch with tears. 7 My eyes grow weak with sorrow; they fail because of all my foes” (Psalm 6:6-7). A flood of tears. Weak from sorrow. What could he pray? Just, “Save me!”
But that didn’t mean David was hopeless. Far from it. He trusted in God’s unfailing love. He knew, “The LORD has heard my cry for mercy; the LORD accepts my prayer” (Psalm 6:9). He had hope in the Lord.
You do too! God loves you with that same unfailing love. Jesus has saved you from sin and death by dying on the cross and rising from the dead. Take heart! There’s hope! The Lord hears your prayer.
