Burning Comes Before Light

Before there’s light, something has to burn. Have you noticed that? For a candle to give light, the wick has to burn and wax has to melt. For the lights to come on in your house, somewhere something is burning—coal, gas, solar rays—to create that light. For your campfire to light up the night, wood is burned to ashes. Before there’s light, something has to burn. Burning comes before light!

Could the fires you’re passing through today actually be about to produce something brighter than you ever could have imagined? Could the struggles you face today be leading toward something better than you can picture at the moment?

Here’s God’s answer: Yes! “For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all” (2 Corinthians 4:17). I can’t promise how your life on earth is going to go, but you can trust in God’s promise for how it all turns out: Eternal glory in heaven through Jesus.

Burning comes before light! The troubles you face today are nothing compared with the eternal glory that’s waiting for you in heaven. The struggles that burden your soul are part of God’s plan to refine your faith for what he has planned next for you.

For Jesus, it was first the cross and then the crown. Should it be any different for us? Don’t lose heart. The fires you see today are leading to eternal glory. Burning comes before light!
