“Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the Lord our God” (Psalm 20:7). What are you trusting in? Most of us don’t have chariots or horses today, but we have cars, houses, IRAs, HSAs… We also have safety nets and hospital systems, close friends and beloved families. We have college degrees and intelligent minds and years of life experience. So what are you trusting in? Have you noticed that even the greatest things of life let you down? Crumble under pressure? Fail?
King David had learned that hard and valuable lesson. “Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the Lord our God.” There’s only One who is truly trustworthy. He’s the One with the nail marks in his hands and the hole in his side. He’s the One who doesn’t just stand by you, but he lived life for you so that eternal life is yours. Jesus is the Rock on which our lives and his Church is built. Don’t be surprised when others crumble. “Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the Lord our God.”
