Today

Today is always the day to repent of our sins. I constantly need that reminder. Sometimes I think, “If God forgives me when I repent of my sins and believe in Jesus, why can’t I sin all I want to right now and then repent later?” It sounds like a fool-proof plan, doesn’t it? Why not sin all we want to right now, and then repent later and be forgiven?

There is a tiny bit of truth in that logic. Our gracious God freely forgives sinners when they repent. That’s God’s amazing grace! No matter what a person has done, there is forgiveness for sinners at Jesus’ cross.

But if we decide to put off repenting of our sins, we’re taking a big gamble for two reasons. First, it’s easy to fall in love with sinning. If you decide to live a sinful lifestyle today, do you really think you will ever repent? That’s a big gamble.

Here’s an even bigger gamble: You don’t know when you’re going to die. Maybe today is your last day. If you’re content with the sin in your life—not struggling against it or repentant of it—then what if you die before you repent? No sinful pleasure is worth suffering for eternity in hell.

When we believe that Jesus paid for all our sins on the cross, “Now is the time of God’s favor. Now is the day of salvation” (2 Corinthians 6:2). There is urgency to repentance. Don’t wait! Today is the day to repent and believe in Jesus.
