Happy Father’s Day—a little late! I’m thankful for my father and for all the Christian fathers around our country. With the emphasis on empowering women in our society today, it’s easy for dads to feel unneeded or useless. That couldn’t be further from the truth! A father’s care and compassion is so important that God compares his love for us with that of a father: “As a father has compassion on his children, so the Lord has compassion on those who fear him” (Psalm 103:13). Dads, we need you!
The problem is that we earthly fathers mess up—all the time! Instead of modeling God’s compassion, we teach our children impatience, selfishness, and anger. Our priorities too often point our families away from Jesus, instead of to him. And we know it! So how many Christian dads live with guilt?
That’s when it’s good for fathers to remember that they have a Father too. God’s compassion isn’t just for little kids. It’s for God’s big kids too—for dads like me and you. For every time we’ve failed, God hasn’t. His forgiveness and compassion cover our faults and failures too. It’s great to have a Father! Dads—we pray that you find in your heavenly Father the forgiveness and compassion you need to lead your families. We need you! We need the father’s love!
