The Desert Will Bloom

Have you ever seen the desert? The real desert? I once drove through the Mojave Desert in the middle of summer. Do you know what it’s like? Dead. Dry. Empty. Hot. No flowers. No trees. Just desolation.

That lonely drive made me appreciate one of God’s promises: “The desert and the parched land will be glad; the wilderness will rejoice and blossom. Like the crocus, it will burst into bloom; it will rejoice greatly and shout for joy” (Isaiah 35:1-2). Here was God’s promise: The desert will bloom! That’s how powerful God is. God is able to make even the desert bloom!

Sometimes I feel like a desert inside. Know what I mean? Because of my sins, because of other people’s sins, I feel dead inside. Dry. Empty. Desolate. I feel like there’s no hope. Like nothing could grow. Not here. Do you ever feel like that?

Then remember this: God can make even the desert bloom! The God who can turn dry, desolate wastelands into fields of wildflowers can take your heart and make it new. He can take your life and make it bloom.

When Jesus died on the cross, he washed all your sins away. When you were baptized, God gave you new life in Christ. When you hear God’s Word, the seeds of faith and hope are planted in your heart. I know life can feel like you’re driving through a desert, but trust this: God can make even deserts bloom!
