The Battle Is the Lord’s

Boy vs. giant. Shepherd vs. hardened soldier. Sling and stones vs. spear and armor. Nine feet tall vs. not nine feet tall. David vs. Goliath. That battle doesn’t sound fair at all, does it? You’re right! It wasn’t fair. Goliath didn’t have a chance. What? Goliath didn’t have a chance? Yep, Goliath didn’t have a chance. Because his height and armor and weapons and experience were no match for the Lord, and David knew it: “All those gathered here will know that it is not by sword or spear that the LORD saves; for the battle is the LORD’s, and he will give all of you into our hands” (1 Samuel 17:47). The battle is the Lord’s!

Remember that today. No matter what giant you face, from a long day at work to a battle with depression to the guilt of your sins, it’s not you who’s going to fight. It’s the Lord! The God who created you, redeemed you, and saved you is fighting for you today and every day. The battle is the Lord’s!
