Spread It Out before the LORD

Things didn’t look good for good King Hezekiah. The Assyrian king with an army of around 200,000 men had attacked Jerusalem. The Assyrians were undefeated. No country or city great or small had been able to fight them off. On top of it all, the Assyrian commander even claimed that God was on his side. “The Lord himself told me to march against this country and destroy it” (2 Kings 18:25). What could King Hezekiah do?

Here’s what he did: “Hezekiah received the letter from the messengers and read it. Then he went up to the temple of the Lord and spread it out before the Lord. And Hezekiah prayed to the Lord.” (2 Kings 19:14-15). What a great phrase: “He spread it out before the Lord.” Hezekiah took his troubles to God and literally spread them all out in prayer. He didn’t have the answers. He didn’t know how this was going to end. But he knew that God did, and he trusted in him.

What do you have to “spread out before the Lord” today? God loves to hear your voice. God isn’t afraid of any of your doubts or fears or worries or sins. In fact, he sent Jesus to take them all away. He invites you to cast all your burdens on him, because he cares for you. Whether you’re facing a huge army or a scary sickness or bills you can’t afford, spread it out before the Lord and trust in his love for you in Jesus.
