Sleep in Peace

Do you struggle to fall asleep? Do you have nights when you toss and turn and can’t seem to calm your racing thoughts? I think we all do! Life gives us so many things to worry about. Anxiety easily fills our minds and hearts. The “to-do” list never gets any shorter. Dangers and sicknesses lurk around every corner. Guilt eats at our consciences. Some nights it’s hard to fall asleep. I’m sure King David in the Bible had lots of reasons to lie awake at night too. But he didn’t! Instead, he said, “I will lie down and sleep in peace, for you alone, O LORD, make me dwell in safety” (Psalm 4:8). In the midst of life’s struggles, in the midst of life’s dangers, David found in God the peace to sleep. The peace that comes from God’s forgiveness. The peace that comes from God’s power and control over our lives. The peace that comes from knowing that life depends on God, not on you and me. “I will lie down and sleep in peace, for you alone, O LORD, make me dwell in safety.” May God grant you that same peace—the peace that lets you fall asleep at night! Whatever guilt weighs down your heart, Jesus has forgiven you! Whatever worries you have about your future are really in God’s hands. Even the coronavirus isn’t bigger than our God. The world doesn’t depend on you or me. It depends on Jesus, and he is always faithful. So tonight you can sleep in peace!
