Perfect Peace

Perfect peace. Does that describe your heart today? Of course not! How in the world could you have perfect peace? With all that’s going on? Your daily schedule forces you to race from one thing to the next. Conflict in your relationships leaves your heart feeling uneasy. Guilt over what you’ve done—and all the things you haven’t done—eats away inside you. Then there’s all the violence here and everywhere. How in the world could you have perfect peace?

Only by looking outside of yourself. By looking outside of your family. By looking outside of your school or your job. By looking outside of this war-torn world.

There is Someone who offers perfect peace: God. “You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you. Trust in the Lord forever, for the Lord, the Lord himself, is the Rock eternal” (Isaiah 26:3). Who has perfect peace? Those whose minds are steadfast because they trust in the Lord.

There is an eternal Rock on which you can build your life. There is a forever foundation where your heart can always find peace: The Lord! The Lord doesn’t change like shifting shadows. The Lord doesn’t keep a record of wrongs. Instead, he forgives through Jesus and his death on the cross. The Lord isn’t flighty or faithless like so many human relationships. He is the Rock eternal!

Do you want perfect peace? Look outside of yourself. Look outside of this world. Trust in the Lord!
