Our Times Are in God’s Hands

Two Marines were killed this week in Iraq. Deaths like that hit home when you have family in the military. Cancer eats away at the bodies of millions of Americans, including some of us. Death is so much closer than we’d like to think. It’s coming. Nothing reminds us of the seriousness of our sin and the brokenness of our world more than death. The “end” for every one of us is outside our control. When? How?

God knows. In the face of death, here was King David’s hope, “But I trust in you, O Lord; I say, ‘You are my God.’ My times are in your hands; deliver me from my enemies and from those who pursue me. Let your face shine on your servant; save me in your unfailing love” (Psalm 31:14-16). Our times are in God’s hands. You and your loved ones are not going to die a minute too soon. No sickness controls your death. No bullet will make the final decision. God will, and he loves you with his unfailing love. So we can say, “I trust in you, O Lord; I say, ‘You are my God.’ My times are in your hands…
