What do you say when everything goes wrong? When life falls apart? When it feels like you can’t go on? What do you cry out in the darkness of life when it seems like the sun is never going to rise again?
Job was in the middle of one of those dreadful moments. Suddenly, inexplicably, he had lost everything. His possessions. His servants. Every single one of his ten beloved children. His health. It was gone. All gone. Everything was going wrong. It seemed like it would never be okay. Can you relate?
Here’s what Job shouted when everything went wrong: “I know that my Redeemer lives, and that in the end he will stand on the earth. And after my skin has been destroyed, yet in my flesh I will see God; I myself will see him with my own eyes—I, and not another. How my heart yearns within me” (Job 19:25-27).
What a defiant cry in the face of sin, death, and the devil: My Redeemer lives! Job’s faith in his Savior gave him courage, strength, and hope even as his flesh was being eaten away. No earthly struggle could possibly undo the victory that Jesus Christ would win through his life, death, and resurrection for us.
May God’s Holy Spirit allow you and me to have that same courage, strength, and hope, even when everything goes wrong. Our Redeemer lives! In darkness, there is light. In death, there is hope. Our Redeemer lives!
