Our Amazing God

Habakkuk was amazed at our God. Are you? Listen to his words, “Lord, I have heard of your fame; I stand in awe of your deeds, O Lord” (Habakkuk 3:2). Habakkuk was amazed at our God. I wonder what amazing things Habakkuk had on his mind. The 10 plagues in Egypt? Crossing the Red Sea? The improbable victories in battle God gave the Israelites? Living 2600 years after Habakkuk, we could add so much more. Especially how God gave his Son Jesus to die and rise as our Savior. Are you amazed at our God? After celebrating Holy Week, how could we not be?

But Habakkuk’s amazement was followed up by a prayer. He prayed, “Renew them in our day, in our time make them known; in wrath remember mercy.” Our amazing God isn’t just a God of the past. God’s amazing deeds aren’t over. Habakkuk prayed that God—just as he has throughout history—would remember him and his people and do even more amazing things to save them. Isn’t that our prayer today? We have an amazing God. He’s done so much! But he invites us to keep praying. To keep trusting. In the midst of the fears of a pandemic, we turn to our amazing God and say, “Renew them in our day, in our time make them known; in wrath remember mercy.” We have an amazing God!
