One Day at a Time

My mind often starts to race. I bet yours does too. I think of all the things I have to do today. Then I think of all the things I have to do tomorrow. And the next day. And next week. And next month. And next year. And then it’s not just my mind that’s racing. My heart races too.

How will I get it all done? How will I make it through all that? Life can seem so overwhelming.

So take a deep breath and listen to Jesus: “Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own” (Matthew 6:34). Isn’t that great advice? Don’t worry about tomorrow. You already have enough trouble today. You’re not meant to handle two days’ worth of trouble on the same day. You’re certainly not meant to handle a month or a year’s worth of trouble on one day. “Do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself.” That’s great advice! One day at a time.

But from the mouth of Jesus, that’s more than just advice. That’s power and strength to live each day without worry. The God who cares for the little birds and the wildflowers will certainly care for you. The God who gives you eternal life through faith in Jesus will certainly give you all you need today. So don’t worry about tomorrow. Trust in God’s grace, one day at a time.
