We hear a lot of boasting. I suppose that’s normal in an election year. Everyone everywhere seems to be trying to prove their thoughts and opinions are best—including you and me. “Look at what I did! Listen to what I think!” Those are some of the most natural words in the world. Lots of boasting!
The Bible gives a simple reason why boasting has no place in a Christian’s life. Listen: “Where, then, is boasting? It is excluded. On what principle? On that of observing the law? No, but on that of faith.” Why is boasting “excluded” from a Christian’s life? Because we’re saved by faith, not by what we do. We’re saved by Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection, not by how well we’ve done anything. If you’re saved by your works, go ahead and boast all you want. You’ll be surprised on Judgment Day! If you’re saved by faith in Jesus, live a life of humility that always points to Jesus. No more boasting. Just Jesus!
