No Hiding

Whom are you hiding from today? You hope you don’t run into them at the store. You work hard not to make eye contact when you’re in the same room. You ignore every text. Whom are you hiding from?
Is it God? That’s what Adam and Eve tried to do after they sinned in the Garden of Eden. They tried to hide from God. Each of us has done the same thing. Avoided church. Tried to suppress the guilt in our hearts. Pretended to be good. Are you trying to hide from God?
It won’t work. God has already found you. God already knows. He says, “Who can hide in secret places so that I cannot see them? declares the LORD. Do not I fill heaven and earth? declares the LORD” (Jeremiah 23:24). If God fills heaven and earth, where can you hide? Nowhere. Where can you tuck your sins away so that God can’t see them? Nowhere. There is no hiding from God.
So come to him. It sounds so counterintuitive, but it’s true. When you sin, come to God. When you’re wracked by guilt, come to God. Why? Because Jesus came to forgive every one of your sins. Jesus died on the cross to take your guilt away. There’s no need to hide. There is forgiveness for you at Jesus’ cross.
Doesn’t that sound good? No more hiding from God. Instead, humbly lay your sins at the foot of Jesus’ cross and marvel at God’s grace.
