Made for Eternity

Writer: Pastor Nathan NassPastor Nathan Nass

“You only live once!” How often do you hear that? We’re bombarded with encouragements to seize the day because our end could come at anytime. “You only live once!” Do you believe that?

Isn’t that empty? If you’ve bought into the lie of evolution, I suppose it makes sense. If this world is all there is, you better treasure today, because when you’re dead, you’re dead. It makes sense, but isn’t that sad? Even if you seize the day today, if your end is just a pile of ashes, who cares? Isn’t that empty?

But God tells you something so much better: “He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the human heart” (Ecclesiastes 3:11). While we are blessed with beautiful moments on earth, God made you for more than this earth. God made you for more than this life. God made you for eternity. “He has set eternity in the human heart.” Deep down, you don’t long to live for 100 years, you long to live forever!

God didn’t just set eternity on our hearts. He provided a way to live forever: Jesus. Jesus died on the cross and rose again to open the gates of heaven for us. Everyone who believes in Jesus doesn’t just live once. For a Christian, life doesn’t end at death. We get to live for eternity with Jesus.

So don’t set your heart on anything in this world. You were made for eternity!
