Love Discipline

Do you like it when people tailgate you as you’re driving? I can’t stand it! Once, I was driving in a big city at night. A large pickup truck started tailgating me. Every few seconds, he flashed his brights. I was starting to get angry. You would have been angry too!

Until I realized something: I didn’t have my headlights on. It was dark, and I was driving without my headlights on. The driver of that pickup truck wasn’t trying to threaten me. He was trying to save me from a traffic ticket or an accident or worse. I turned on my headlights and breathed a sigh of relief.

God is like that pickup truck driver. He’s not afraid to make you uncomfortable. He’s not afraid to tailgate you. Not because he’s angry with you, but because he wants to save you! “The Lord disciplines those he loves, as a father the son he delights in” (Proverbs 3:12).

When God sends people into your life to discipline you and correct you, don’t get defensive. Don’t double-down in your stubborn ways. Instead, reflect on your life. God wants you to notice what’s missing. To admit what’s wrong.

All so that you can know God’s salvation! Because Jesus died on the cross for you, you don’t have to be afraid of your sins. You don’t have to cover them up. Jesus has already forgiven you!

Learn to love those who discipline you. It’s a dark world. You need your lights on!
