You can’t do it all yourself. Do you need that reminder today? We get bombarded with messages about how “independent” and “strong” we are. We get it in our heads that we don’t need anybody for anything.
That’s not true. You can’t do it all yourself. Even Moses couldn’t. As Moses led God’s people to the Promised Land, the Israelites were attacked by the Amalekites. As Joshua led the army into battle, Moses stood on a mountain with his arms raised. As long as Moses’ arms were raised, their army won.
But Moses couldn’t do it all himself. Of course, the power for the victory came from the Lord. But Moses couldn’t even hold his arms up by himself. “When Moses’ hands grew tired, they took a stone and put it under him and he sat on it. Aaron and Hur held his hands up—one on one side, one on the other—so that his hands remained steady till sunset” (Exodus 17:12). Moses needed someone to hold up his hands.
You do too. You can’t do it all yourself. First and foremost, you need Jesus your Savior to give you forgiveness and grace and strength each day. Every victory comes from Jesus! But, like Moses, you also need other Christians to hold you up, just like other Christians need you to support and encourage them.
You can’t do it all yourself, and you don’t have to! Jesus teaches his people to hold up each other’s hands.
