God’s Word Isn’t Suspended

Church services suspended… Out of respect for our government and love for the people of our community, our church has made the difficult decision to suspend all of our in-person worship services indefinitely. The coronavirus has managed to do what snowstorms, tornados, and floods haven’t: Keep God’s people from gathering to hear God’s Word. Although we will be live-streaming a service each weekend, our in-person worship services have been suspended indefinitely.

But that doesn’t mean God’s Word has been suspended. Actually, the disruptions the coronavirus has caused could turn out to be a blessing in disguise. The best place for God’s Word to be shared isn’t in a church building anyway. Do you know where it is? In our homes!

Here’s God’s encouragement: “These commandments that I give you today are to be upon your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates” (Deuteronomy 6:6-9).

God’s Word is never suspended. It’s available to us in more ways and formats than ever before. There is no better place for God’s commands and promises about Jesus to be shared than in our homes. It sure sounds like we’ll be spending more time than usual in our homes with our families. What a blessing! If you’re not in the practice of reading the Bible, now’s the perfect time to start. If you’ve never gotten in the habit of having family devotions with your spouse or kids, the coronavirus is giving you more opportunities to do so. God’s Word isn’t suspended. May it be alive and active in our homes!

Please comment below on the best ways you’ve found to talk about God’s Word at your house. God bless you as you do!
