God’s Mysterious Ways

God works in mysterious ways. Have you heard that saying? It’s true! Here’s what the prophet Isaiah says in the Bible: “Since ancient times no one has heard, no ear has perceived, no eye has seen any God besides you, who acts on behalf of those who wait for him” (Isaiah 64:4). No human being could ever dream up our God. No human mind could ever imagine what God is really like without God’s Word. None of us can plan out how God is going to work on our behalf. God works in mysterious ways!

I struggle with that. Know why? I don’t like to wait. I don’t like to wait at all. I want things to happen on my timetable. But they don’t. God’s mysterious ways don’t match up with my life plans. I get frustrated. Discouraged. Impatient. Do you? Why can’t God work in my ways instead of in his mysterious ways?

Here’s why: God’s ways are so much better! God acted on behalf of those who wait for him in a way that no ear or eye could have possibly imagined. He came into our world and died for us. Jesus suffered for our sins, so that we are forgiven. Jesus rose from the dead, so that we will rise too. And here’s the best part: It’s all free for you and me. We’re saved by God’s grace, not by what we do. I could never have come up with that on my own! God’s mysterious ways are so much better than mine. Let’s wait for him.
