Burdened. That’s how my family and I felt last week. We stood outside the airport ready to fly home from after a great family vacation—with four little kids, three large suitcases, four car seats, and a big stroller. Burdened. We love vacations, but we don’t enjoy trying to make it through the airport with all of our stuff. So my wife and I started to load up our arms: Bags over shoulders, child in arms… but the car seats? We couldn’t do it. Suddenly, out of nowhere, an airport employee showed up with a big cart. “Can I help?” she asked? “Yes, please!” In no time, she loaded up all our stuff, calmly pushed it all to the ticket counter. What a relief! In no time, our burdens were lifted. Our anxiety was gone. Thank you!
Burdened. You don’t have to be traveling with little kids and lots of stuff to feel that way. How many burdens are weighing down your heart and soul today? I bet they feel impossible to carry. Sin. Guilt. Anxiety. Worry. Burden after burden. How can you make it? You have someone even better than an airport worker—a Savior! “Praise be to the Lord, to God our Savior, who daily bears our burdens” (Psalm 68:19). Jesus came to carry our burdens. Jesus took our sin and guilt upon himself when he died on the cross. You don’t have to carry it anymore! Jesus takes our anxiety and worry on himself and promises our lives are in his hands. Jesus carries our burdens! How often? “Daily.” You don’t have to walk through life dragging your baggage behind you. We have a God—a Savior!—who daily bears our burdens.
