It had to be hard to be Noah. Can you imagine building a huge boat in the middle of dry land? If you’ve ever heard the story of Noah and the Flood (Genesis 6-9), you wonder how he did it. Other people must have mocked him: “You’re a fool, Noah! There’s no way it’s going to rain that much!” How did he do it?
By faith. Only by faith. The Bible tells us, “By faith Noah, when warned about things not yet seen, in holy fear built an ark to save his family. By his faith he condemned the world and became heir of the righteousness that is in keeping with faith” (Hebrews 11:7). It was all by faith.
By faith Noah believed God’s words about things he couldn’t see. By faith Noah trusted God’s promise that God would save his family through the ark. By faith Noah was willing to condemn the whole world rather than turn away from God. By faith God gave Noah the gift of righteousness that comes by faith.
Wouldn’t it be great to have a faith like that? May God give all of us a faith like Noah’s.
“Dear God, in your grace, grant me a faith that builds an ark even before it rains. Grant me a faith that trusts in your Word, even when no one else does. Grant me a faith that clothes me in Jesus’ righteousness and forgiveness. Grant me a faith that never turns from you. Amen.”
