Do you like moving? How about moving to the other side of the world? How about leaving your parents and other relatives behind? How about doing all that without even knowing where you are going?
In the Bible, Abraham did all of that. How? By faith. “By faith Abraham, when called to go to a place he would later receive as his inheritance, obeyed and went, even though he did not know where he was going” (Hebrews 11:8). By faith Abraham left his extended family and moved all the way from Ur on the eastern side of the Middle East to the land of Canaan in the far west.
How could he do that? Abraham trusted that God was with him. He trusted that God’s plans for him were better than whatever plans he had of his own. He trusted that God was able to provide for him wherever he was. Most of all, he trusted that his true home was in heaven. We’re all just strangers here.
Wouldn’t it be great to have a faith like that? May God give all of us a faith like Abraham’s.
“Dear God, in your grace, grant me faith to believe that since you are with me, I am never alone. Grant me faith to let go of my plans and live out the life you have given me. In all of life’s moves, grant me faith to trust that my real home is in heaven through faith in Jesus. Amen.”
